The Nordost Kin
7 living souls of 7 · 1 battle, 1 won · spoken of in the taverns as Ratcatchers after 21 nights
Nordost was a holding of longhouses and pine forest in the cold north of Ostland, and it belongs to the Nordost family no longer. What drove them out, they do not discuss with strangers. They walked south through a hard winter and buried kin at the roadside as they went — brothers, wives, children — until only this handful reached the Reik. Hardy folk, raised on thin soil and long nights, they have come to the City of the Damned because it is the one place in the Empire where a family with nothing left can still dig a fortune out of the ground. They mean to earn enough wyrdstone to buy land somewhere quiet, raise longhouses again, and never speak of the road south.

Tale
Agnar chose the road south and counted every grave they dug along it. He carries the weight of that arithmetic and rarely raises his voice, because he has never had to. The winter that killed so many of his family only seems to have made him harder to kill: he came through it without a fever, and the kin have taken that as an omen worth following.

Darkest moment: Orri nearly drove him back into the canal; despite the victory, his kin suffered injuries and recovered no gems.
Put out of action: Orri Ormsson — Defeated Orri in the melee beyond the collapsed canal.
3 nights in Mordheim and Fussenbach
- Night 1 · Festag, 10th of Pflugzeit
Agnar Nordost sat with the boatmen in the Broken Bell. They know their face now. The whole city was drinking to the hanged. Agnar drank to them twice.
- Night 3 · Aubentag, 12th of Pflugzeit
Agnar Nordost was stood a drink by a stranger in grey oilskins who asked nothing and left. The drink was good. The silence after it was not. Somebody started the song about the Baron's shutters. Everybody knew the words. Nobody would sing the third verse.
What Agnar did Sing the third verse. Agnar sang it. The Flagon roared, and then checked the windows.
- Night 5 · Backertag, 14th of Pflugzeit
Agnar played skittles in the Flagon's yard until the lantern went out. Lost, mostly. Was asked back. The whole Flagon was drinking to the hanged man. Agnar drank to him twice. In the Flagon a Watch sergeant, deep in his cups, said the name of somebody in The Nordost Kin and a price for it.
What Agnar did Buy him another and hear the rest. Two more cups and he named the buyer, or a buyer. Agnar paid for the cups and remembered the name.

Tale
One of the blood brothers, and now the simplest to arm: one weapon at a time, one hand, no shield and no argument. Gammling Gubbsson put him out of action in the watchtower during the kin’s first battle for the abandoned market; the wound cost him the other hand. Baldur avenged him and held the tower, but that is not the same as getting it back. Mjølnir means to make the remaining hand count.

Biorn cannot decide whether he would rather settle a fight at twenty paces or at arm's length, so he carries the means for both and lets the street decide. In Nordost this was called indecision. In Mordheim, where an alley can turn into a rooftop chase without warning, it has begun to look like foresight.

Darkest moment: His first grab at Norri failed and left him with a mouthful of canal water; Flint held off his solo charge until Ragnar arrived.
Put out of action: Grakki Dourhammer — Put Grakki out of action in the fighting at the canal.

Biorn took a bout at the Pit and took a bruise for it. The crowd was fair. The crowd is never fair. The Pit drew the overflow from the gibbets. They wanted more of what they had seen.
- Night 4 · Marktag, 13th of Pflugzeit
Biorn watched the Bitterbrow Expedition from the mill bridge. Somebody there was watching back.

Tale
Youngest of the kin to come through the winter, and the only one who still talks about the road south as an adventure. He swings a blade meant for a bigger man and has been told, repeatedly, to check who is standing behind him first. The helmet was Agnar's idea, and Baldur wears it because arguing with Agnar is not a thing the family does.

9 nights in Fussenbach
- Night 4 · Marktag, 13th of Pflugzeit
Baldur climbed the cliff path below the manor and lay under the study window until the light changed colour. It changed twice.
- Night 6 · Bezahltag, 15th of Pflugzeit
Baldur Nordost sold a story at the Flagon's back table along with the goods. The story fetched more. The chandler did brisk business in the effects of the dead.
- Night 8 · Angestag, 17th of Pflugzeit
Baldur Nordost kept the usual arrangement on the lower docks. The usual coin.
- Night 10 · Wellentag, 19th of Pflugzeit
Baldur kept the arrangement. The arrangement kept them. The buyer at the tollhouse held it up to the sky and the sky was the same colour. He paid in a hurry.

Baldur Nordost moved the usual sliver through the usual bargeman. The usual tenth for the ferryman.
- Night 14 · Bezahltag, 23rd of Pflugzeit
Baldur Nordost traded with the eel-men as usual. Coin and eels, as usual. The buyer at the tollhouse held it up to the sky and the sky was the same colour. He paid in a hurry.
- Night 16 · Angestag, 25th of Pflugzeit
Baldur Nordost moved the usual sliver through the usual bargeman. The usual tenth for the ferryman. The buyer at the tollhouse asked if the green had come down with the ash. Baldur said yes. It paid better.
- Night 18 · Wellentag, 27th of Pflugzeit
Baldur sat in the Flagon's window and watched the wharf while pretending to drink. The landlord pretended not to notice. Fair all round. The Flagon's fire would not draw and the room filled with the smell of somewhere else burning. A man with no fingers on his left hand was rattling bones in a cup at the corner table and wanted a game. He was winning against people who had all their fingers.
What Baldur did Watch from the bar. The river does not wait for orders, and neither did Baldur. Baldur watched three men lose. One of them said something worth keeping.
- Night 20 · Marktag, 29th of Pflugzeit
Baldur prayed for the bargemen who did not come back. Nobody knew their names. Sigmar presumably does. The candles guttered in the draught and had to be relit twice.

Tale
No Nordost by blood, but he found the family on the road and stayed. He goes lightly armed and moves over broken ground like something with four legs, which the kin have stopped finding strange.
